Sam Steele Salute the boots: The RCMP
The theme of Sam Steele Days 2016 is ‘Salute the Boots.’ Recently, Sam Steele spent some time various public servants and has submitted his report to show what he experienced in the day of a life of a Cranbrook RCMP officer.
With Sam Steele Days 2016 just around the corner, I was only able to spend an afternoon with a few members of the Cranbrook RCMP as they took a few hours to be active in the community. First, I would like to mention that I was pleasantly surprised to spend the day with a person of the opposite sex. When I enlisted in 1873 this never would have been possible. I am glad things have changed.
You will notice that we spent quite a bit of time with the youth of Cranbrook on this afternoon. I came away with a few new words such as, “bae, yolo and nope out.”
That was a wonderful afternoon. The Cranbrook Fire Fighters told me that the RCMP only eats donuts. I am sad to report that we never had one.
I would personally like to thank the Cranbrook RCMP detachment for putting themselves on the line each and every day. We salute you.
Sam Steele Days 2016 runs June 16 -19. For a complete list of events please use the website.
Did you know that hotel rooms in Cranbrook have been booked for months? With this many people in Cranbrook to attend Sam Steele Days there has to be a plan in place for the RCMP. Traffic flow, Road Checks, Crowd control and the safety of the patrons are just a small part of their duties during Sam Steele Days.
