School zone radar signs shouldn’t be left on

Letter to the Editor

Once again, I notice the digital, radar signs in school zones have not been adjusted or turned off for the summer holidays.

In my estimation, leaving them on for such an extended period when school is out, is just plain apathy and carelessness. It leads to contempt on the part of drivers and becoming used to ignoring these signs, it also will lead to people unintentionally doing this when school resumes.

Last year, I pointed this out to Mr. Tank at the school district and received a response from him that he thought it was a good thing and had checked with the RCMP and they felt it was also good to leave it alone over the summer.

I think this is completely wrong headed and shows contempt for the public.

As I am getting the opinion of our RCMP second hand, I can’t say for sure that this is their opinion on this matter, but if so, they really need to rethink this situation.

As these are city streets, by copy of this letter, I’m asking that our municipal officials demand that these signs be turned off for the remainder of the school summer shutdown.
