Self-storage unit use approved
City of Cranbrook council last night unanimously approved a zoning amendment for a C-2 (Highway Commercial Zone) property at 301-2nd Avenue South that will allow ‘storage’ as an allowed use.
With the passing of the third and final reading of Zoning Amendment (Bylaw No. 3938, 2018 – Text Amendment to C-2), property owner/applicant Kurt Swanson of KL Swanson Enterprises Ltd. will establish some self-storage units on the property, which once housed BC Tel and more recently Dean’s Plumbing.
A city Office of Innovation and Collaboration report notes Swanson said the hours of operation at the proposed facility will be “restricted from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days per week. He further notes that since the storage use on the adjacent property has been in place, there has been a notable decrease in activity, noise and traffic.”
The storage containers (example pictured above) will be non-permanent and will be located outside of the building within the existing fenced yard.
Council gave first and second reading to the bylaw July 16. A public hearing for Bylaw No. 3938 was held July 30. No one spoke to the bylaw.
The other businesses operating out of the building remain the same.
