Senior Boys impress at provincials
By Kaley Wasylowich
Mount Baker Senior Boys’ Volleyball team has returned from a successful week at the AAA Provincials in Langley.
The team breezed through most of their pool play placing second amongst three other teams from the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. They won their first best of five crossover games against a team from Vancouver Island in four sets, moving on to play a tough team from Semiahmoo.
Mount Baker put up a fight, losing three close sets and winning one against Semiahmoo, which went on to win the tournament.
Mount Baker then faced off against and beat the Mt. Boucherie team from Kelowna (last year’s second-place team) but lost the battle to third overall ranked Vancouver Tech.
Of note was the spectacular final performance by two Grade 12 players, Sam Keefer and Nick Lightburn, who the team will miss next season.
Overall, Mount Baker Senior boys placed 11th out of 20 teams having gone in ranked 18. The team is extremely happy with its performance and is looking forward to returning with a strong team next year.
