Significant progress in Memorial Arena repair
Significant progress is being made in the planning efforts to repair the structure of the Memorial Arena. That was the update that City of Cranbrook administration provided members of council Monday night.
The collaborative efforts between engineering consultants, local contractors and city staff demonstrate a commitment to finding innovative solutions for a safe and timely project delivery. Installing structural scaffolding, which is currently taking place, is the first step in allowing the arena ice plants to run.
While the project schedule depends on factors such as worker safety, material supply, contractor coordination and weather conditions, the potential for the Kinsmen Arena ice surface being ready by early spring 2024 and the Memorial Arena back in business shortly after is promising news for the public.
Once completed, the repairs are expected to add 50 years to the life expectancy of the exterior structure of the Memorial Arena.
City of Cranbrook staff are grateful to the local group for prioritizing this project amid a busy construction environment.
