Solution sharing at EKISC Forum and AGM
Invasive species leaders from organizations, government and the national council are ‘Partnering for Solutions’ at the East Kootenay Invasive Species Council (EKISC) 2017 Annual General Meeting and Forum, Wednesday, April 26, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at Cranbrook’s Heritage Inn.
“This is an excellent opportunity to learn the latest on how organizations fighting invasive species are succeeding and what their future plans are,” said Todd Larsen, EKISC Executive Director. “Invasive species impact all of us—private landowners, hunters, recreationists, and tax payers. Everyone can have an impact.”
Barry Gibbs, Canadian Council on Invasive Species; Mike Gall, BC Backcountry Hunters and Anglers; and Kelly Cooley, Southern Alberta Weed Coordinator are just three of the key presenters. A panel discussion, speedy sessions on eight invasive species topics and EKISC reports will provide key information to paint a clearer picture of the efforts to mitigate the effects of invasive species.
“The EKISC Forum will provide us with future solutions for a common goal of protecting the native ecosystems of the East Kootenay,” said Larsen. “During the AGM section, we will reflect on 2016 programs, and discuss how to build more efficient and resilient partnerships to ensure solutions work.”
Attendees can learn more about how the RDEK will be assisting private landowners in dealing with regionally listed noxious weeds, which they are legally responsible for managing.
The Golden Shovel Award 2017 will be presented by Bill Bennett, recently retired Kootenay East MLA. Kootenay-Columbia MP Wayne Stetski will also be on hand.
