Two arrested in stolen vehicle

A male and female were arrested September 13 in Cranbrook in a vehicle that had been stolen earlier that day.

The vehicle had been left overnight at a pub in Kimberley. When the owner returned in the morning the vehicle was gone. Video surveillance in the area indicated it was stolen about 3:30 a.m.

Around 1:15 p.m., police received information the stolen vehicle was traveling towards Cranbrook on Highway 95A.

Cranbrook General Duty members, East Kootenay Traffic Services and Police Dog Service intercepted the vehicle as it entered Cranbrook on Industrial Road 2. The vehicle attempted to elude police for a short time and the suspects stopped at a business and began to leave on foot when they were arrested.

The subjects, both from Cranbrook, face multiple charges including, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Property and Fail to Stop for Police.

“This was excellent team work by several officers that resulted in the successful apprehension of two subjects with minimal risk to the public,” said Sgt. Chris Newel of Kimberley RCMP.

Police would like to remind people to properly secure their vehicle at all times.
