155 Kootenay cadets take part in Fitness Weekend
East and West Kootenay Cadets have been at it again, recently taking part in a very busy Fitness Weekend (Jan. 25-27) in Castlegar.
A total of 155 Sea, Army and Air Cadets from 13 units in the Kootenays attended the annual East Meets West Fitness Training Weekend, which was held at Selkirk College.
During the weekend, the cadets participated in a fitness assessment, team sports, orienteering and even a dance. Along with the fitness component, the weekend focused on Leadership Skills for senior cadets. Many friendships were made and reunited.
The Cadet program, which include Sea, Army and Air Cadets, is the largest government funded youth program in Canada with over 50,000 participants across Canada.
The cadet program accepts youth between the ages of 12-18 who have a desire to learn more about the air element of the Canadian Forces, wish to develop the attributes of leadership and good citizenship and who wish to promote physical fitness.
While the program is military based, there is no obligation for a cadet to join the Canadian Armed Forces.
