A great day for a Gran Fondo
The conditions couldnāt be finer for a Gran Fondo through the Kootenay Rockies today, Saturday, September 9.
The eighth annualĀ Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo, organized by the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club, is underway.
More than 400 riders launched in three separate groups this morning from St. Eugene Golf Resort and Casino under deep blue clear skies.
The race routes are near St Eugene Golf Resort and Casino, NorthStar Rails-to-Trails to the Kimberley Platzl, Ta Ta Creek, Wasa Lake, Fort Steele Heritage Town, Norbury Lake, Kootenay Trout Hatchery, and Highway 3 from the Ft Steele turnoff into Cranbrook.
Please be aware of many cyclists on the roadways in the areas described.
Anticipate brief stoppages on the highways as volunteers safely guide cyclists from one route to another.
