Another snowfall warning for Kootenay Pass

Environment Canada has today (Nov. 20) issued a snowfall warning for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm expected from today into Thursday morning.

“Moisture is being pumped up into the region from the south and is running into cold air being pushed down from the north creating snow for the highway. Snow will be continuous today and this evening but the heaviest snowfall is expected to be overnight and into Thursday morning. Between 15 to 20 centimetres of snow is expected by the time the snow tapers off to a few flurries Thursday morning,” Environment Canada stated.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

The site shiftintowinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains. Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
