B.C. Green’s nominate candidate for Nelson-Creston
B.C. Green Party leader Sonia Furstenau last week announced that the party has nominated former City of Nelson councillor Nicole Charlwood as its candidate for Nelson-Creston in the next provincial election.
“It is my pleasure to share that the B.C. Green Party has nominated Nicole Charlwood as our candidate for Nelson-Creston,” Furstenau announced. “Nicole is a former Nelson city councillor and an extraordinary community advocate. She has so much to offer this riding as a B.C. Green MLA and I look forward to working with her in the legislature after the next election.”
“Politics in B.C. has been polarized for far too long,” Charlwood said. “The success of my campaign in the 2020 snap provincial election convinced me that this riding is ready for a more well-rounded and collaborative representative who can act independently from special interests. My campaign team has grown since then and we are ready to make history in Nelson-Creston!”
Nicole LeBlanc Charlwood was raised in urban and rural Ontario, is of English and Acadian heritage and graduated high school with a French immersion certificate. Upon moving to the Kootenays in 2001, she married her husband Chris, and they became parents.
Selected to run as a BC Greens candidate in 2020, Nicole entered the race late and came in a close second with 31% of the vote.
She easily won the Nelson city councillor seat in the by-election with 75% of the vote and the highest-ever youth turnout.
Nicole is currently working as the Executive Director of the newly formed West Kootenay Watershed Collaborative. She loves to volunteer and has held many roles on boards of directors, and is a driver for seniors.
