BC Conservatives introduce Kootenay-Rockies candidate

Local Conservatives change the political landscape with a new riding association

Founded in 1903, the Conservative Party of British Columbia has always been, and remains, committed to common-sense Conservative policies and values.

Political history was made over the weekend in Cranbrook as Conservatives in Kootenay-Rockies (formerly Kootenay-East) moved to establish a Provincial riding association. Conservative Candidate, Pete Davis, who is leading in a poll and has garnered support from high-profile Conservatives in the area, was on hand for the meeting. He had a straight-forward message for Conservatives in the riding.

ā€œThere will be a Conservative option with Conservative values representing Conservative policies on the ballot in October,ā€ said Davis. ā€œOf the other ballot options will be a BC United (formerly BC Liberal) Candidate who, from a policy and voting standpoint, belongs to a Party that has moved into a centre-left position on many issues important to voters in the riding. British Columbians are looking for change and Conservatives will be that change.ā€

Davis went on to say, “Supporting a BC United (formerly BC Liberal) Candidate in Kootenay-Rockies and expecting a Conservative outcome makes about as much sense as voting for Trudeau and expecting him to remove the carbon tax. It isnā€™t possible Federally, for a Liberal to be a Conservative and we have officially, this past weekend, stopped pretending that it was working here in recent years, provincially. I am calling on all Conservatives in Kootenay-Rockies to remove the possibility of NDP representation by voting Conservative on election day.”

Newly elected riding President, AJ Wolfe, echoed Davisā€™ comments saying that, ā€œThe era of the big-tent Party is over. They havenā€™t been able to form government in recent elections, have been largely ineffective as an opposition party and, having moved centre-left, no longer represent Conservative ideas. Changing a Party name doesnā€™t erase over a hundred and twenty years of Liberal ideology.ā€

Founded in 1903, the BC Liberal Party remained affiliated with Trudeauā€™s Liberal Party of Canada for 84 years until 1987, only changing their name in 2023. On many key issues, they remain committed to Liberal left-of-centre policies and values.
