BCWS responding to three regional fires
There are a couple of new fires on the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) map today that are visible from the Cranbrook, Columbia Valley and Moyie areas and the Regional District of East Kootenay wants to take this time to remind everyone to remain vigilant and prepared as we move into the fire season.
The fire visible from Cranbrook is Mount Morro Wildfire, which was discovered today about 35 km northeast of the city. It is an estimated 40 hectares according to the BC Wildfire Service this afternoon. The suspected cause is lightning.
The fire visible from the valley is in Vowell Creek, north of Bugaboo Provincial Park.
This fire was caused by a dry lightning strike on July 9, which means it occurred without rain nearby. BCWS reports the 12 ha fire is under control.
And the fire visible from Moyie is in Sunrise Creek. It is an estimated .009 ha and was discovered today. BCWS says it is under control.
