BCWS tackling new fires
People and lightning continue to keep BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) crews on their toes in the East Kootenay.
About five BC Wildfire Service personnel are currently attacking a small suspected person-caused fire off Kikomun Newgate Road, west of Lake Koocanusa this afternoon.
Two lightning caused fires from last night are burning near Canal Flats, including a .01 ha fire in the Findlay Creek area southwest of town and a .01 fire on Mount Grainger to the west.
The Spider Creek fire northeast of Kitchener remains active at 1.14 ha.
