Be ready for accumulated snow in passes
Environment Canada Dec. 28 issued a special weather statement for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass and other passes, alerting travellers to the likelihood of accumulated snow and challenging driving conditions.
Around 10 cm and locally up to 15 cm of snow accumulation is expected along Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, as well as the Trans-Canada Highway – Malakwa to Eagle Pass and Coquihalla Highway – Hope to Merritt.
If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
“A Pacific weather system currently over southern B.C. will give snow to some of the highway mountain passes today. The snow will taper off to flurries tonight or early Sunday morning as the system departs,” Environment Canada said.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Road conditions are available at drivebc.ca.
