Be wary of road conditions after first rain

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd. is warning motorists of a new form of slippery condition on regional highways – the first rainfall after a dry spell.

“After a week of warmer weather it looks like we can expect some steady rain by Sunday.  We wish to remind motorists that the roads can be slick with the first rainfall after a prolonged dry spell.  Please drive to the conditions,” Mainroad stated in a stakeholders update.

The continued arrival of spring means highly revved up activity in regional waterways.

“We also ask that you use extra caution around rivers and streams as we expect them to continue to remain high for the next little while with the 120% snow pack we received this winter,” Mainroad warned.

“Finally, a reminder to homeowners with driveway culverts that it is their responsibility to stay on top of the required maintenance so that the inlet and outlet remain clear at all times.”

Mainroad’s 24 hour communications and dispatch office will pass on all your observations and concerns to our crews when contacted. Call 1-800-665-4929.
