Building A Legacy workshops upcoming

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Community Energy Manager is delivering a series of workshops to increase knowledge and awareness around energy efficiency in East Kootenay homes.

‘Building A Legacy’ is a new program that will offer credited builders’ workshops as well as community resource nights in three East Kootenay communities this fall, focused on learning about energy efficiency in a hands-on approach in new and existing homes.

These events are taking place: 

Invermere, Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce Hall:

November 14, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. – Community resource night

November 15, 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Envelope and Air Sealing Training

Cranbrook, Heritage Inn:

November 15, 6:30– 8:30 p.m. – Community resource night

November 16, 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Envelope and Air Sealing Training

Fernie, Best Western Plus Mountain Lodge:

November 16, 6:30– 8:30 p.m. – Community resource night

November 17, 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Envelope and Air Sealing Training

Builders’ Workshops:

The morning builders’ sessions will deliver on training priorities identified by East Kootenay builders, including hands on training showing innovative approaches to wall design, building envelope and sealing techniques.

The main speaker, Hamid Heiderali, P. Eng, is  an experienced building science professional and instructor,  who will present ten wall assemblies and introduce opportunities that exist to improve energy performance of new and existing homes. Megan Lohmann, RDEK Community Energy Manager, will overview the new BC Energy Step Code and opportunities it provides for improving energy performance above current BC Building Code requirements.

This workshop qualifies for four Continuing Professional Development credits. Early bird pricing is in effect until Nov 5.

Community Resource Nights

A fun, interactive evening showcasing locally available resources and services for renovating and building energy efficient, cost-effective, comfortable homes.
This all-ages event will feature informative presentations, hands-on demonstrations, as well as a trade show of local businesses and service-providers who are dedicated to creating energy efficient homes and buildings.  The Building A Legacy open house will showcase a hands-on display of 10 innovative wall assemblies to demonstrate opportunities to improve energy performance with insulation, air sealing and wall design.

East Kootenay energy advisors will be in attendance, showing how home energy assessments help renovators, builders, and home owners know where their home energy is going and what to do about it.

Desserts and refreshments provided. Attendance is FREE!
