Canada Day celebrations around the region
Here’s a brief look at Canada Day celebrations and events taking part around the East Kootenay June 30 and July 1.
City of Cranbrook
A wide variety of things to do from noon to 7 p.m. at Rotary Park.
Farmers’ Market and food vendors; beer garden; Kids’ Zone (1 to 5 p.m.); Citizenship Awards and Youth Ambassadors (1 to 2:30 p.m.); live music from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m.
City of Fernie
Join the Canada Together event, taking place at City Hall and the Fernie Aquatic Centre Grounds. Events begin at 10 a.m. with a flag raising ceremony and reconciliation walk with the Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡI ‘it First Nation and City of Fernie. The walk beings at City Hall, making its way through downtown, finishing at the Aquatic Centre Grounds.
Following the walk, head to the Aquatic Centre Main Stage for Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡI ‘it traditional drumming, speeches, dancing, and games.
In the afternoon, enjoy a line-up of local live music, activities for kids, and the Mini Mountain Market at the Aquatic Centre Grounds in celebration of Canada Day.
The Aquatic Centre is also offering a free swim from 1-4 p.m.

City of Kimberley
First Saturdays, celebrating arts, culture in heritage in Kimberley begins July 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley Fireworks at midnight on June 30.
The annual Canada Day Parade is returning to downtown Invermere on Saturday July 1 at 11 a.m. The route this year will start at Pothole Park and will travel down 7th Ave to 14th St. There will be road closures in downtown Invermere during the parade. Barricades will be placed at all intersections and crossroads along 7th Ave.
The Farmer’s and Artist’s Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lakeview Parking Lot.
District of Sparwood
Canada Day celebrations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sparwood Leisure Centre. Fire trucks, cupcakes, barbecue, balloon animals, bouncy houses, slip n slide, face painting, crafts and more.
Fairmont Hot Springs
Celebrate Canada Day at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. Groove your way through Canada Day with two live music events at the resort! Attend Rockinomix live in the park from 2 – 5 p.m. for all to enjoy. And then follow the band to Mulligans Pub at Riverside Golf Course starting at 8:30 p.m. to continue to move to the music.
Fort Steele Heritage Town
Summer hours begin July 1 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Site fully open.
Jaffray-Baynes Lake
Jaffray-Baynes Lake Farmers’ Market at the Baynes Lake Community Centre. The market runs from the third weekend in June until the Sept Long Weekend, Saturdays from 9 – 12:30 p.m.
Village of Radium Hot Springs
June 30 – Market on Main from 4 to 7 p.m. and Music on Main from 6 to 8 p.m.
