Breastfeeding rates across Canada continue to be alarming low. Families need support along their breastfeeding journey. Celebrating Breastfeeding Week is a great way to “kick-off” breastfeeding support around the region for a new year.
Other forms of support that are available for breastfeeding families include: East Kootenay Midwives, Sweet Pea Midwifery, Public Health Nurses, Over The Rainbow Family Services (private Lactation Consultant) and Breastfeeding Mamas! peer support group.
Breastfeeding Mamas! (East Kootenay) currently holds meetings in Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood and Invermere each month and has a vibrant, online network that moms can access 24/7 on Facebook. Moms can ask questions, gather information and support other moms along their journey.
As we celebrate breastfeeding week this year we celebrate the options families have in the East Kootenay for breastfeeding support. We celebrate that we live in an areas where breastfeeding is not only supported but accepted and encouraged.
