Community to community forum in Qukin ʔamakʔis
The District of Sparwood and Ktunaxa Nation are collaborating to host a Community to Community Forum for representatives from local government within Qukin ʔamakʔis (Raven’s Land).
This is the first event of its kind in the Elk Valley where leaders from Elkford, Fernie, Sparwood, Regional District of East Kootenay and the Ktunaxa Nation will gather to explore what reconciliation means to them.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission released 94 calls to action and of those, the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) identified 16 that are related specifically to municipal government.
“We all share responsibility in working towards reconciliation. Although we don’t know exactly what it will look like, we hope that this event will start the conversation and lead to actionable plans towards reconciliation, that it will create meaningful relationships between local governments in the Elk Valley and the Ktunaxa Nation,” said District of Sparwood Acting Mayor Brad Bowen.
Funding for this event is provided by the UBCM, which operates the Community to Community Forum program.
The Forum will be held on March 22 in Sparwood for invited representatives from the local governments within Qukin ʔamakʔis.
