Conditions good for prescribed burn by YXC April 2

The City of Cranbrook will be undertaking a prescribed burn at Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC) as early as Tuesday, April 2, in collaboration with the BC Wildfire Service, and other regional partners.

The burn is weather dependent and will cover 50 hectares of land, leading to highly visible smoke from Cranbrook, Kimberley, and the surrounding area.

The burn boss has been out checking conditions and indicates that conditions are good for the prescribed burn, Canadian Professional Fire Fighters Local 1253 noted on social media.

This burn will help reduce catastrophic fires in the future.

The Canadian Rockies International Airport is noted as critical provincial infrastructure in the event of a significant regional and/or provincial natural disaster.
