Consider climate change before casting your vote

Letter to the Editor

I am very concerned about environmental issues. Climate change/global warming is a phenomenon that I have been aware of for many years. It is an extremely important issue, and I believe one that affecting all life here on our planet. I could go on and on about this topic, but I will try to be brief.

My story that I would like printed is related to the CBC radio program, ‘What on earth’. This is a weekly program that discusses various environmental issues. I really enjoy it.

This past Sunday, Sept.12, the program involved the CBC program host interviewing representatives from all federal political parties. She was discussing each parties’ strategies dealing with Climate Change. All the parties, eg. Liberals, New Democrats, and Greens, had a representative candidate to speak with, except the Conservative Party.  No Conservative Party candidate spoke for the party.  To be fair, she did interview some people from the Conservative Party.

However,  once I knew that no candidate from the Conservatives would be available to speak on this so important issue, my thinking and feeling was shame, shame. To me this indicates how important the Conservatives feel this issue is.

The people speaking on behalf of the Conservatives, talked like it was far less critical to deal with the causes of the changing climate, ie burning of fossil fuels. Instead, they talk about things we can do to protect ourselves. a person was talking about lakes somehow being involved and solving the problem.

I wondered what the heck is this person talking about. Because to me, this will not reduce, or for sure solve this problem.

Of course everyone is entitled to vote for whomever they choose.

My main point is that I think people need to really consider not voting for the Conservatives, just because of this important issue of the changing climate, and their attitude towards it.

Thank you very much for your attention. Hopefully my article will be printed. That would make me very happy.
