Cranbrook woman missing in Jumbo Pass

Columbia Valley RCMP along with Search and Rescue members from around the region are currently searching for a Cranbrook woman who is missing in the Jumbo Pass area, west of Invermere.

The call for assistance was received on Monday, Aug 13 through a SPOT activation. A group of six persons were hiking in the area. One member had gone for short walk by herself on Sunday, August 12, when she didn’t return police were contacted.

About 20 Search and rescue members from Columbia Valley, Golden, Cranbrook, Kimberley and Creston are on scene along with RCMP Police Dog Service.

ā€œSearching is being done with the aid of helicopters due to the inaccessibility. The area is also steep and treacherous making searching difficult,ā€ reported Sgt. Chris Newel of Kimberley RCMP.

Missing is Louise Baxter (52) from Cranbrook (pictured above). Witnesses say she was dressed for the conditions, but not equipped for the night.
