Cranbrook woman missing in Jumbo Pass

Columbia Valley RCMP along with Search and Rescue members from around the region are currently searching for a Cranbrook woman who is missing in the Jumbo Pass area, west of Invermere.

The call for assistance was received on Monday, Aug 13 through a SPOT activation. A group of six persons were hiking in the area. One member had gone for short walk by herself on Sunday, August 12, when she didnā€™t return police were contacted.

About 20 Search and rescue members from Columbia Valley, Golden, Cranbrook, Kimberley and Creston are on scene along with RCMP Police Dog Service.

ā€œSearching is being done with the aid of helicopters due to the inaccessibility. The area is also steep and treacherous making searching difficult,ā€ reported Sgt. Chris Newel of Kimberley RCMP.

Missing is Louise Baxter (52) from Cranbrook (pictured above). Witnesses say she was dressed for the conditions, but not equipped for the night.
