Creston resident DUC B.C. Volunteer of the Year

With National Volunteer Week from April 27 to May 3, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is delighted to be announcing its Volunteers of the Year for 2025.

Over 3,000 volunteers across the country make contributions to DUC’s essential wetland conservation and science work, with about 290 active in British Columbia.

In B.C., DUC is celebrating the contributions of volunteer Bettylou Christenson from Creston, a volunteer of 41 years.

Donning a number of hats with Ducks Unlimited Canada over the last four decades, Bettylou Christenson is a fierce advocate for conservation. Since resuming her role as chair of DUC’s Creston chapter two years ago, she’s helped revive the committee and hosted a successful banquet last fall that brought in a wave of donations and attracted new volunteers (to whom she’s been a mentor).

For Christenson (pictured), conservation is a family affair and her work with DUC is a legacy she’ll leave not only for her grandkids, but for all the children growing up in her community.

ā€œSaving the wetlands isn’t just for the birds. It’s for four-legged animals and two-legged animals — it’s for humans, too…together we can protect the wetlands and wildlife for the generations of tomorrow,ā€ she said.
