East Kootenay downhill season nears full steam
As snow falls over the entire East Kootenay and its towering Rockies and Purcell Mountains, it is clearly ski and snowboard season in the region.
Fernie Alpine Resort was first out of the gates for East Kootenay resorts, opening December 3, while Panorama Mountain Resort near Invermere opened Dec. 8.
Next up is Kimberley Alpine Resort, opening tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 15.
“Kimberley Alpine Resort, a good place to ski, cranks up the lifts, this Friday, December 15!” stated hill manager Matt Mosteller. “We are so grateful for all who ski and ride with us each winter. Kimberley is so good for so many reasons, but most importantly it is the passion of the people and the strong commitment to skiing and winter adventures that this community has.”
It’s going to be a holiday season to remember at Kimberley Alpine Resort. There will be live music in The Stemwinder Bar & Grill, night skiing, S’mores Fat Bike and Snowshoe Tours, Santa Claus himself and the annual Family New Year’s Eve Party with fireworks lighting up the mountain at 9 p.m.
Fairmont Hot Springs Ski Hill has had to delay opening day to Dec. 22 due to recent unexpected weather patterns.
And Wapiti Ski Hill at Elkford is scheduled to open in “mid-December,” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with limited opening times during the week.
