Emergency Preparedness Fair May 4
National Emergency Preparedness Week is approaching from May 5 – 11 and the East Kootenay Emergency Management Program will be holding an Emergency Preparedness Fair in Cranbrook to kick things off on May 4.
“Emergencies can happen at any time, and there are things we can do to make sure we are better prepared to respond,” said Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Protective Services Manager Christina Carbrey.
“It’s important for people to know which risks we face in this area and what they can do to help their family prepare for them. This fair will help residents learn which services are available for support and how they can start to formulate those necessary emergency plans for their households.”
The fair will be held in the parking lot of Western Financial Place (1777 2 St N, Cranbrook) on May 4 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The services in attendance include the East Kootenay Emergency Management Program, East Kootenay FireSmart Program, East Kootenay Amateur Radio Club, Cranbrook Fire Rescue, BC Wildfire Service, Cranbrook RCMP, BC SPCA, Canadian Red Cross, Cranbrook Search and Rescue, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting.
Many of the services will have their emergency response apparatus on display, there will be games for the kids, prizes to be won, and invaluable information about keeping your family safe. All are welcome to attend.
RDEK staff will also be on hand to help people sign up for the Regional Evacuation Notification System, Voyent Alert! ahead of the annual system test on Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m.
