Evacuation Order for Palliser and Cross River area

Ravenshead fire grows

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK), has issued an EVACUATION ORDER for the Palliser/ Cross River area as the Ravenshead Fire (N21610) continues to be fanned by wind and dry conditions.

The EVACUATION ORDER is in effect as of 3 p.m. for nine properties, including:

  • NIPIKA MOUNTAIN RESORT (9200 Settler’s Rd);
  • CROSS RIVER EDUCATION & RETREAT CENTRE (9272 Cross River Road);
  • CROSS RIVER FOREST SERVICE ROAD;
  • CROSS RIVER CANYON RECREATION SITE.

“A tactical evacuation was executed this morning by BC Wildfire and the Evacuation Order will remain in effect until further notice,” said Information Officer, Loree Duczek. “This is also a popular recreation area and we are encouraging all residents to ensure they are paying attention to the latest updates and any additional area closures or restrictions that may be implemented in this area.”

An information line has been set up at 250-426-2188 or toll free 1-855-346-2188 and, when not staffed, there will be a recorded message with the most up-to-date information.
