Evacuation Order lifted; one home destroyed

As crews begin to assess the damage from yesterday’s fast-moving grass fire in the Wycliffe/St. Mary River area, the evacuation order for three homes has been rescinded.

One home was destroyed in the fire along with a few outbuildings; however, no one was injured in the blaze, which broke out yesterday afternoon.

The homeowner is being supported by Emergency Social Services volunteers, the Regional District of East Kootenay reported.

The BC Wildfire Service quickly responded to the scene with ground personnel and air support and will be continuing the investigation into the cause.

Residents of the area are asked to be mindful of crews that may be working in the area today to restore power and other services.
