Fuel reduction project beginning in Wasa area

The Provincial Wildfire Risk Reduction Program will soon start a hand-treatment fuel reduction project in the Wasa area. This work is happening both north and east of Wasa Lake.

Crews will remove accumulations of surface fuels and widen the spacing between the trees by removing smaller stems and danger trees. This material will be placed in piles no larger than two metres tall and three metres wide, in locations that will not add an increased fire risk.

These piles will be burnt in compliance with the Ministry of Environment Open Smoke control when conditions permit.

As this is not a Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) project, if you have questions related to this work, please contact [email protected].
