Gran Fondo remains economically impactful event

The Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo, the Rotary Club of Cranbrook Sunrise and Cranbrook Tourism are excited to announce the Economic Impact Assessment (EIA) conducted by Cranbrook Tourism on our September 9, 2023 event.

On that day, there were 354 riders, 150 volunteers and over 1,000 family members, and friends supporting their healthy active day in our community experienced the Gran Fondo set at St. Eugene Golf Resort and Casino.

Here are some highlights of the Economic Impact Assessment.

  • $371,390 spent by visitors for hotels, restaurants, food, shopping, and transportation ($756 per visitor).
  • $617,603 overall economic activity in the province.
  • 1,071 out-of-town visitors in the Cranbrook area.
  • $147,129 of wages and salaries supported locally.
  • $138,558 in taxes supported across Canada.

We anticipate 500 riders (our maximum registration) participating in the September 7, 2024, Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo. This will be a 40% increase from 2023.

The Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo, presented by Selkirk Signs, is a non-profit event created, planned, organized, and proudly led by the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club.

Our purpose is to serve as an opportunity for cyclists to participate in a world class Fondo, bring tourists to our region, and raise funds for local charitable endeavours Fondo Funds at Work: North Star Rails to Trails (R2T) Society, Kimberley Volunteer Ski Patrol, Speed Watch and Kimberley Rotary Club, Cranbrook Noon Hour Rotary Club, Mark Creek Lion Club, WASA Lions Club, and Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club (Event Organizer).
