Registration is open for the fifth annual Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo, being held on Saturday, September 9.
Super Early Bird registrants can save up to $40 and are automatically eligible for three fabulous draw prizes:
* Two nights event accommodation at the St. Eugene Resort;
* Two nights event accommodation Trickle Creek Lodge;
* Two return flights, Cranbrook to Vancouver with Pacific Coastal Airlines.
The increasingly popular Fondo recently earned national recognition as it was featured in the May issue of the Canadian Cycling Magazine. Registration is well ahead of last years record participants with two international cyclists coming from Switzerland. The event is expecting to reach the 500 rider registration cap this year.
Since 2013 the Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo Circuit has quickly established itself as one of the most popular events on the Gran Fondo. John Woodsen, acclaimed North American Bucket List rider wrote: “The Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo is a crown jewel on the Canadian Gran Fondo circuit. Without a doubt, it is bucket list worthy. The Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club with all the partner organizations and volunteers knocked it out of the park – a Gran Slam.”
The full story recently was published on the North American web site.
The family-orientated event, which was initiated by the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club in 2013, is a major fund-raiser for the club. Funds raised by the Fondo are used to support local Rotary Projects. Past projects include, Downtown Bike Rack Project, CPR Train Restoration. Proceeds are also distributed to non-profit groups in the community who are active volunteer participants in the event, including the three Rotary Clubs in Cranbrook and Kimberley, two local Lions Clubs, the Kimberley Volunteer Ski Patrol, Canadian Disaster Animal Rescue, Crime Stoppers, MBSS Girls Volleyball Team and the NorthStar Rails-to-Trails Society.
Cranbrook sunrise Rotary Club would like to thank Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants, our title sponsor and the many local business who financially underwrite the event.
The 2017 Gran Fondo has three course options; Piccolo (58 km), Medio (102 km) and Gran 152 km).
A Post Ride Buffet greets all cyclists with local music sensation Dawson Rutledge providing live musical entertainment in the Pavilion at St. Eugene. The Team Spirit Award sponsored by the Heid Out and the King and Queen of the Mountain sponsored by The Pedal & Tap Restaurant will be awarded at the buffet.
The super early bird deadline is Wednesday, May 31.
