Learn about Metis culture March 16
The Rocky Mountain Metis Association (RMMA) is one of the 38 chartered communities with the Metis Nation of British Columbia. The RMMA covers Cranbrook, Kimberley and Creston areas.
The RMMA is hosting two upcoming programs/ events and invites the community.
The first event is being held in partnership with the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Child & Family Services Society. The Metis Culture Community Camp is on March 16 at the Girl Guides Hall in Cranbrook.
This is a family event from 1:30 to 7 p.m. to learn about Metis Culture, participate in family friendly Metis activities and followed by a Metis Kitchen party!
It is free and open to families, but pre-registration is required.
There will be instruction on Metis jigging, spoon playing, Michif language with Kokum Marie, beading, Metis fiddle music and a traditional Metis meal.
The second event is an Avalanche Safety Training course that is being offered March 26 and 27 in Kimberley.
The RMMA is partnering with Avalanche Canada and the requirements of their funding is that you be a Metis Citizen. The course is free, but we are asking for a $25 deposit to secure your spot (refunded on the day of) and we have seven spots still available.
