Local MLA calls out NDP for publicly-funded illegal drugs

Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka (BC United) Oct. 30 spoke in the B.C. Legislature about the “devastating taxpayer-funded drug crisis” affecting people across British Columbia.

Shypitka called attention to two organizations that are involved in the purchase of illicit drugs and drug trafficking — the Drug User Liberation Front (DULF) and the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) — that have received $1.2 million in public funds from the NDP government.

Shypitka made a motion “to join British Columbians to be appalled, frustrated and deeply concerned to have learned this NDP government has used taxpayer dollars to fund drug trafficking in our province.

“You heard that right,” he said. “Under this premier the taxpayer-funded drug crisis is real and it has exploded. How did this province get to the point where the public taxpayer through this NDP government, and health authorities, is purchasing illegal drugs off the dark web for public consumption?”

Shypitka, along with the rest of the BC United Caucus, called on the government to request an Auditor General investigation into how taxpayer dollars were used to support the trafficking of illegal drugs.
