Localized flooding possible for some areas
Environment Canada is today warning about the potential for localized flooding due to heavy rain and thunderstorms in the southern East Kootenay and Elk Valley, as well as Kootenay Lake and the Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass area.
The localized flooding warning includes an alert to a sudden reduction in visibility from heavy bursts of rain.
Small debris flow is also possible.
āAn upper low will cross the Idaho Panhandle early this morning and then move into northwestern Montana bringing periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms to parts of the Kootenays. Thirty to 50 mm of rain will fall resulting in locally high rainfall rates which may lead to pooling of water on roads, rapid rises of creeks and rivers and poor visibility,ā Environment Canada stated.
Heavy rain will ease to a few showers this afternoon as the upper low moves into eastern Montana.
