Mainroad advises black ice conditions possible

Highway 95A in Kimberley

Snowfall began in Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting’s service area this morning, but all highways were pretreated with liquid chemical de-icer in advance of the storm, the regional highways contractor reported this afternoon (Nov. 2).

All areas of the East Kootenay are currently receiving wintery conditions.

“Crews have plowed, sanded and salted all major highways; however, with the fluctuating temperatures overnight we could see some black ice conditions,” Mainroad stated in a stakeholder’s advisory.

“Temperatures are forecasted to remain above zero with snowfall accumulation tapering off early this evening.

“Morning commuters are reminded to be cautious as changing temperatures can impact road surfaces,” Mainroad said.

“Motorists should use caution, drive to the conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather.”

Drivers should check www.drivebc.ca before heading out.
