MLA Clovechok maintains Official Opposition Whip role

MLA Tom Shypitka

Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Doug Clovechok was today re-named as Official Opposition Whip following the weekend instalment of new BC Liberal Party leader Kevin Falcon.

Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka also remains as Mines, Low Carbon Innovation Critic.

Outgoing party leader Shirley Bond will continue as Leader of the Official Opposition until Kevin Falcon secures a seat in the legislature.

“After speaking with the newly-elected Leader of the BC Liberal Party, Kevin Falcon, I am grateful to have been asked to remain in the role of Leader of the Official Opposition in the B.C. Legislature until Mr. Falcon has an opportunity to contest a seat that will lead to him officially taking his place as the Leader of the Official Opposition in the Legislature,” Bond stated.

Falcon’s two strongest competitors for partly leadership, Ellis Ross and Michael Lee, will be Official Opposition Critic for Energy and LNG and Official Opposition Critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.

“Following a vote within our Caucus, MLA Coralee Oakes has been elected to the position of Caucus Chair. MLA Jackie Tegart is being put forward as our nominee for Assistant Deputy Speaker,” Bond said.
