Moyie to Creston roads getting $12.85M in upgrades
Highway 3 between Creston and Yahk and Highway 95 between Kingsgate and Curzon Junction will be getting $11.5 million in upgrades this construction season.
A further $1.35 million will be spent to rehabilitate a concrete wall bordering the CP Rail tracks near Moyie as part of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s (MOTI) 2018 Projects BC work program.
The Arrow Creek Road to Yahk and Highway 95 (Kingsgate to Curzon) resurfacing project will take until the fall to complete, MOTI outlined.
Work to be undertaken includes asphalt surfacing, including: 440 m of 50mm mill and fill on the arterial in Creston between 10th Avenue and 15th Avenue; approximately 36 km of mill and fill on Highway 3 from East Arrow Creek Road to Yahk, which includes some shoulder widening in the three lane section; approximately 11 km of mill and fill on Highway 95 from the Kingsgate Border Crossing to the Junction of Highway 3/95; and approximately 23.5 km of side roads in the Kitchener, Arrow Creek, Kidd Creek, Kingsgate, Yahk and Moyie areas will be resurfaced.
“Resurfacing of side roads will improve the travelled surface and lessen regular maintenance costs. Resurfacing supports the reliability of the highway system and provides economic benefits in terms of the movement of goods and services, both locally and provincially, by minimizing delay times caused by maintenance activities,” MOTI reported.
The CPR Wall No. 4301R Rehabilitation project ($1,350,000) along Highway 3/95 will take place 2.5 km south of Moyie (35 km south of Cranbrook).
The project is to rehabilitate the existing concrete wall, and include the installation of a bicycle railing. The project will “improve safety for the travelling public, make travelling on this section of road more enjoyable for all users and improve safety and efficiency of the roadway,” MOTI said.
The estimated project completion is in the summer.
