KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week – ending Oct. 24
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is happy to announce its 3 Stars of the Week, for the period Oct.18-24.
The stars are Ethan O’Rourke of the Osoyoos Coyotes, Colton Phillips-Watts of the Kamloops Storm and Carson Cleland (pictured above) of the Kimberley Dynamiters.
O’Rourke – 1st Star
O’Rourke (right) had five goals and six points, including two game-winning goals for the Coyotes over the Summerland Steam, 6-2 and 13-7 over the Princeton Posse. Against the Steam, Ethan Floris and Ethan McKinley set up O’Rourke to give the Coyotes a 3-1 lead in the second period. Against the Posse, O’Rourke was set up by Floris to make it 8-4 late in the second period. O’Rourke finished with four goals and an assist in that win.
The Penticton native has nine goals and 12 points in eight games, which puts him fifth overall in league scoring.
Phillips-Watts – 2nd Star
Phillips-Watts (left) opened the week turning aside 21 of 23 shots in a 4-2 win over the 100 Mile House Wranglers. He also collected an assist on the 2-2 goal in the second period. The Quesnel native followed up that performance with a 27-save shutout over the Sicamous Eagles on Sunday.
In the two wins, Phillips-Watts stopped 48 of 50 shots and finished with a .960 save percentage. Phillips-Watts has five wins, which is tied for the league lead, in seven games, with a 2.48 goals against average and improved his save percentage to .898 following.
Cleland – 3rd Star
The Taber, Alta., product collected three assists in two games. In the Dynamiters 4-0 win over Golden, Cleland eared two assists, one giving his team a 2-0 lead. Cleland added his third assist of the weekend in a 4-3 loss to Fernie and has four in eight games.
