Nominations open for Electoral Area Volunteers of the Year

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is currently seeking nominations for the 2024 Electoral Area Volunteers of the Year.

ā€œVolunteers are out there every day, making a difference in our communities. From flipping pancakes at a summer festival, coaching little league, or providing transport for seniors getting to medical appointments, their vast contributions are important and deserve to be recognized. Volunteers are often those who donā€™t ask for applause, so this is an opportunity for those around them to say, ā€œwe see you, we appreciate you, and we know how hard you work.ā€ If you know someone who is committed to making positive change for those around them, the RDEK wants to celebrate them,ā€ said RDEK Board Chair Rob Gay.

ā€œPlease nominate a volunteer in your area, as itā€™s important to honour those who are giving their time, energy, and passion for the benefit of others.ā€

Nomination forms are now available and, as it has in past years, the regional district will be honouring one outstanding volunteer or couple from each of its six Electoral Areas. Nominees must be a resident of an Electoral Area (outside of incorporated municipalities) and make voluntary contributions to the spirit, culture, or people of the community.

Nomination forms can be filled out onĀ engage.rdek.bc.ca/volunteer.

Hard copies of the nomination formĀ can be picked up at the Cranbrook and Columbia Valley RDEK offices for those without computer access.

The deadline for nominations isĀ 4:30 p.m. on February 7.
