On the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III
Letter to the Editor
As Lieutenant Governor and representative of the Crown in British Columbia, I am deeply honoured to mark the occasion of the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and to extend congratulations and good wishes on behalf of all British Columbians.
Like his mother and throughout his life, His Majesty has demonstrated his dedication to public service in innumerable ways: through his early naval career, his extensive patronage of many organizations, and by his sustained commitment to environment and sustainability, education, and the empowerment of young people. I look forward to advancing the issues he has long championed in my role as Lieutenant Governor.
His Majesty has also expressed his earnest desire to work toward a renewed relationship with Indigenous Peoples, and I honour his commitment to contribute to the healing that is needed in Canada and around the world.
On this occasion, may we recognize the enduring legacy of our constitutional monarchy that provides a steadying rudder, linking us outward to the Commonwealth and connecting us to a tradition of stability, parliamentary democracy and equality before the law. May we unite in the creation of a stronger, more peaceful and more inclusive world. And may we reflect on the role that each one of us can play in this noble quest.
As we celebrate the first Coronation of a Canadian Monarch and Head of State in seven decades, let us pledge our wholehearted support for the work that lies ahead and wish Their Majesties strength and courage in fulfilling the duties of the Crown.
Honourable Janet Austin,
Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia
