Parks Canada reminds it’s bear season
Parks Canada is reminding the public that bear season is upon us and visitors and residents should be aware.
Before you head off on your next mountain adventure, here are some bear reminders:
- Avoid an encounter with a bear by making lots of noise to let bears know you are there.
- Be alert through shrubby areas and when approaching blind corners.
- Watch for fresh bear signs. Tracks, droppings, diggings, torn-up logs and turned-over rocks are all signs that a bear has been in the area. Leave the area if the signs are fresh.
- Keep your dog on a leash and under control at all times or leave it at home. Dogs can provoke defensive behaviour in bears.
- Always carry bear spray, ensure it is accessible, and know how to use it before heading out.
