RDEK Climate Action Plan draft out for comment
The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) has just released its Draft Climate Action Plan and have opened a public comment period to gather feedback prior to the plan being taken to the Board of Directors for consideration.
“Once adopted, the Climate Action Plan will establish objectives and action items the RDEK can take to increase our resilience or reduce the impacts of climate change in both our corporate operations and, in some cases, the broader community,” said RDEK Board Chair Rob Gay.
“While the plan is the focus of this engagement, working toward climate resilience will take a collective community approach, so having ideas and input on this draft from the wider community is an important piece of this process and our future actions.”
The draft Climate Action Plan and online comment form can be viewed on the project page. Anyone without access to a computer can request a hard copy of the Draft Plan or comment form be printed off or mailed to them by reaching out to the Regional District of East Kootenay.
The deadline for public comments on the DRAFT Plan is noon on Monday, December 2.
Consultant firm Pinna Sustainability has been hired to develop the Plan, which is intended to set targets to reduce community and corporate greenhouse gas emissions; identify actions in key areas that will set out how the RDEK will help meet these targets; and, identify actions to help the community become more resilient to changes in our climate. It will also provide guidance on the expenditure of the RDEK’s Local Government Climate Action Program (LGCAP) funds.
The Draft Plan is expected to be presented to the RDEK Board of Directors for review at its December 13 meeting.
