Registration open for PDVs public meeting
The Special Committee to Review Passenger Directed Vehicles, a parliamentary committee of the legislative assembly, invites British Columbians to speak at a public meeting this fall.
Passenger directed vehicles (PDVs) include taxis, limousines, and transportation network services (TNS), or ride-hail vehicles.
The committee is conducting a review of passenger-directed vehicle services and transportation network services administered under the Passenger Transportation Act. This includes examining: licensing and supply; safety and accessibility; impacts on public transit, traffic congestion and the environment; employment in the industry; and availability in small, remote and rural communities.
“Committee members are interested in hearing from British Columbians, including those who operate, work for and use taxi and ride-hailing services,” said Mable Elmore, committee chair. “This is an important part of our overall transportation system and the input received will be vital in helping the committee learn about challenges and explore possible changes.”
Shirley Bond, deputy chair, said: “The committee is tasked with examining a number of areas, including how these services can be supported in smaller communities. We’re looking forward to engaging directly with British Columbians in the coming months to hear about the issues in different communities and how services can be improved.”
Public meetings are anticipated for October and November 2023 in Victoria and Vancouver, as well as virtually by video and teleconference.
Those interested in speaking at a public meeting are asked to complete a form on the committee’s website by noon (Pacific time) on Sept. 22: https://www.leg.bc.ca/cmt/pdv
In addition to the public meetings, the opportunity to provide written input to the committee will be available in the fall.
