Search on for man missing in Kootenay River

Local Search and Rescue teams, along with the RCMP, are currently searching the Kootenay River for a man who went missing earlier this afternoon (June 28).

Earlier today RCMP was advised that a man had gone into the water after his boat had dislodged from shore. Although reported to be a strong swimmer, the man has since gone missing.

RCMP Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) operators were able to quickly launch in an effort to locate the man before local helicopters could reach the search area.

“At this time Search and Rescue is still conducting water patrols as well as searching along the shoreline,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron of Cranbrook RCMP.  “The public is asked to avoid the area while the search operation is underway.”

“We are also asking that any possible sightings be directed to the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471”, added Forgeron.
