Shred Kelly rocking Summer Sounds and Flats Fest

Alternative Folk-Rock band Shred Kelly from Fernie are excited to announce their 2024 summer tour.

Following a successful 17-date album release tour in support of their 2023 LP Blurry Vision, the band is pumped to get back on the road this summer.

The tour will take them from B.C. to Ontario, including a stop in Cranbrook on Thursday, July 25 for Summer Sounds at Rotary Park and Flats Fest in Canal Flats on August 17.

On October 20, 2023, the band released its sixth album, Blurry Vision. The album recently garnered them a nomination for Rock Artist of the Year at the 2024 Western Canadian Music Awards, and AmericanaUK said, “Dark times but not without hope; the theme of a pleasingly varied record that bears repeated listening.”

Produced by Nygel Asselin, the album is a deep reflection on the overwhelming nature of the modern world and its impact on our emotional well-being. The new music garnered support from 3am Revelations, Aesthetic Magazine, Canadian Beats, CBC, CKUA, Exclaim, Great Dark Wonder, Indie 88, SiriusXM’s ‘North Americana,’  SiriusXM’s ‘The Verge,’ Breaking Alt Countdown, Earshot National Top 50, Amazon Music ‘Fresh Folk & Acoustic,’ Spotify’s ‘Ready To Rock’ and many more.

Recorded with Nygel Asselin, with whom they previously collaborated on their 2020 release Like A Rising Sun, the recording process for the 10 new songs featured on the album was an immersive and transformative experience.

The band traveled to The Farm Studio in Gibsons, where they spent a week in a remote cabin, finding inspiration outside the confines of the studio. This closeness and connection fostered a truly collaborative environment, leading to the development of new song ideas and a deep bond among the band members.

This holistic approach to recording, combined with the shared meals and experiences, allowed Shred Kelly to fully immerse themselves in the creative process. After years of spending time apart, this extended period of working and living together breathed new life into their music.

The first track, ‘Stained Glass,’ set the pace for the whole album – referencing the light and dark that swirls around us every moment of our existence. The song ‘Better Times’ is about watching a loved one struggle through a mental help crisis – that desperate feeling of wanting to help but feeling helpless at the same time; while ‘Ocean Therapy’ is about loss and seeking nature to heal the loss of a loved one while working through the feelings of grief.

The album closer ‘Nothing For A While’ is about reclaiming our lives by shutting it all off and returning to a sense of self.

The album was mixed by Elisa Pangsaeng and mastered by Brock McFarlane.

Emerging from the majestic landscapes of the Canadian Rockies, Shred Kelly is a powerhouse band that seamlessly blends elements of alternative, folk, and rock music. With a captivating live act that leaves audiences in awe, they have become a mainstay in the Canadian music scene. But it’s not just their energetic performances that set them apart—Shred Kelly’s heartfelt songwriting strikes a chord with listeners, connecting deeply as each band member brings their eclectic musical influences to the table, shaping the group’s unique musical direction.

With an impressive track record of touring across Canada, the United States, Europe, and the UK, Shred Kelly has made appearances at renowned festivals such as Kaslo Jazz, Ottawa Blues Fest, Winnipeg Folk Fest, SXSW, Reeperbahn, and many more.

Furthermore, the band has shared stages with esteemed acts such as The Dead South, Elliott Brood, and The Cave Singers, leading to their reputation as a dynamic live act whose show is described as a joyous celebration of life.

With a fervent commitment to their craft, Shred Kelly has garnered praise from critics in Canada and beyond, earning Spotify Editorial Playlisting, international radio play, and regular rotation on influential platforms such as Sirius XM and Radio Eins in Berlin.

Nominated for Rock Artist of the Year at The 2021 Western Canadian Music Awards, Shred Kelly’s ascent shows no signs of slowing down as they tour their sixth studio album, Blurry Vision.
