Ski resorts going big with season ending parties

Kimberley Alpine Resort and Panorama Mountain Resort are ready for their annual season-ending parties this weekend (April 6-8).

And Fernie Alpine Resort has big plans for its closing weekend April 13-15.

Kimberley Alpine Resort shuts the season down with Spring Splash on Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8.

BC/DC

The wettest, wildest event in Kimberley!  Saturday, April 7 is your chance to cool off at Kimberley Alpine Resort’s annual Pond Skim Challenge! This event will be fun for all ages, so grab the skis, boards and lawn chairs and come enjoy your day off! Only the first 100 entries get to skim! Wear a FUN costume!

We are very excited to announce Saturday, April 7 Spring Splash headliner is BC/DC!

Canada’s (and Nelson’s) BC/DC have systematically re-defined the concept of a tribute band, garnering iconic status amongst diehard fans, agents, and venues from Vancouver to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. From the backyard biker bashes of Ymir, to the star-studded legendary rooms of Las Vegas. From Nelson to New York City.”

Panorama Mountain Resort’s final weekend (April 7/8) is tagged the Super Hero Sun Fest, with three key events.

Peak 2 Valley Race (Saturday)

The Peak to Valley is a time old tradition at Panorama, and is back bigger and better than ever. This timed challenge starts at the summit and entrants will race down our set course all the way to the village. Fastest time in each category wins. You can compete solo or as a team of four people. A portion of each registration will be donated to the Panorama Foundation.

Slush Showdown Pond Skimming Cup (Saturday)

It’s a showdown of epic proportions! Don’t miss the annual Slush Showdown as the resort celebrates the last weekend of the snow season by getting a little wet, all in the name of greatness.

Grab a costume, don a cape and put your super powers to the test as you attempt to glide across our specially made pond on your skis or board. Those that don’t quite make it are in for a chilly dip! This a family friendly event and children are welcome to enter. Must be six years or older. Ski Patrol will be poolside and in the water to assist anyone who doesn’t make it across the pond. Only 125 spots are available so register early.

Dummy Downhill (Sunday) from 1 – 2 p.m.

Dig out the crazy glue and get crafting! This fun event pits creation against mad creation to see whose masterpiece can take home the top prizes of Best Crash and Best Dummy.

This is an entertaining event for both competitors and spectators and is great for families. Don’t miss it!

Registration will be at the Guest Services desk in Ski Tip Lodge from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Participants under the age of 19 must have a parent or guardian complete a release of liability waiver on their behalf at the time of registration. No exceptions will be made.

More on Panorama’s final weekend.

Fernie Alpine Resort is presenting the Dirty Dancer Banked Slalom April 7. The sold out event is for snowboarders.

Closing weekend, April 14/15, once again features Fernival!

This winter marks Fernival’s 10th anniversary!  The two-day Fernival event features free live outdoor concerts.

Sloan

Fernie Alpine Resort is excited to announce its headline band for the weekend – Sloan – on Saturday, April 14 in the plaza with special guest openers.

Another tradition is the Raging Elk Powder, Pedal, Paddle Relay.

Going strong since 1984, the race features individuals or teams of two to five people skiing, biking, paddling and then running in a fun (yet competitive) relay race, followed by a BBQ in the plaza and the Fernival main band.

On Sunday, come back and enjoy the return of BC/DC to rock out and close down the season.
