Snow expected for Columbia and Elk valleys
Environment Canada has today issued a special weather statement warning about incoming snow to the northern East Kootenay including the Columbia Valley, Kootenay National and Yoho National Parks and the Elk Valley.
Snow is also expected along the Trans-Canada Highway – Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, West Columbia, East Columbia and Kinbasket from this morning to Tuesday afternoon except beginning this evening for East Kootenay north and Elk Valley.
Snowfall amounts between five and 10 cm are anticipated for Rogers Pass, Yoho Park – Kootenay Park and Elk Valley.
Five cm or less is expected in Revelstoke, Golden, Tsar Creek, and East Kootenay North Including Invermere.
āA slow-moving Arctic front will bring the first snow of the season to the Columbia and Kootenay region. In Revelstoke, Golden, and Tsar Creek showers will be mixed with flurries today and transition to periods of snow tonight,ā Environment Canada stated.
āFor Rogers Pass and Yoho Park – Kootenay Park, periods of snow will begin this morning and continue through Tuesday. For East Kootenay and Elk Valley, snow will begin this evening and persist until late Tuesday afternoon.ā
Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop.
At this time the snow alert does not include the Cranbrook/Kimberley areas.
However, Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is forecasting mixed precipitation beginning this evening, turning to snowfall early Tuesday morning with snowfall accumulation of two to four cms for the south country.
