Snow forecast for regional passes

Environment Canada is warning the travelling public about incoming snowfall to high elevation locations, including Kootenay and Rogers passes.

Snowfall of 10 to 15 cm is expected tonight and Thursday along Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

“Snowfall could make travel difficult. Risk of freezing rain near Paulson Summit,” Environment Canada said today (Nov. 1).

Additionally, snowfall of five to 10 cm is expected Thursday with risk of freezing rain between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass, as well as Northern Okanagan Valley, Shuswap, West and North Columbia, Kinbasket, North Thompson, Cariboo, Prince George and Chilcotin.

“A warm front associated with a low pressure system will move into the B.C. interior tonight. Snow is forecast to fall over most of the highway (Trans-Canada), however, freezing rain is possible near Paulson Summit Thursday morning.

“Snow will change to rain near noon on Thursday as warm air erodes the cold airmass. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”

Be prepared for winter driving conditions.
