Snowfall Warning for Crowsnest Pass and Banff

If you are heading east into Alberta today, be advised that Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass including Coleman and Frank as well as for Banff National Park.

“Snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm is expected. Snow, at times heavy, this afternoon then tapering off through tonight. Snowfall accumulations will vary considerably due to the warm ground causing some snow to melt,” Environment Canada stated.

“The highest snowfall amounts are expected over higher terrain, where upwards of 25 cm is possible. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”

As for impacts to the neighbouring Elk Valley, Environment Canada reports Elkford, Fernie and Sparwood areas will receive between 15 to 25 mm of rain (heavy at times) with risk of thunderstorms and the possibility of wet flurries this evening.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
