Snowfall warning for Kootenay Pass
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Kootenay Pass for Saturday, Dec. 2.
Snowfall with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected, creating challenging driving conditions due to rapidly accumulating snow.
A frontal system will move across southern B.C. tonight and arrive in the Kootenays on Saturday morning. Heavy snow is forecast to begin early Saturday morning and rapidly intensify throughout the morning, Environment Canada stated.
Snow will taper off late Saturday afternoon or early evening as the front weakens. The Highway 3 route from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass is expected to receive 10 to 15 cm of snow with the highest accumulation forecast to be on the eastern section towards Kootenay Pass.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
